[flagged] They are killing the Blue color for purple everywhere

This purple color everywhere is looking vulgarly excessive, causing eyesore to me. MS Teams refuses to adapt system theme. Search engines changed link color to purple (unvisited). Bing links are dark purple. Google is doing the same. Are they killing the pleasant blue color? What's happening?

I remember liking blue as a kid, but later getting to hate it. I eventually realized that the hate was because I associated it with the Facebook logo. I can understand if everyone is moving away from it, because of that.

Microsoft Teams is in my opinion a dark horse in a variety of areas where they refuse to align with the Windows OS team's choices. I sure wish they would, though, Teams has really inconsistent UX and I never really expect stuff to be wherever they put it. Also, the bugs on the message input field are tiresome, I've never had an application stop acknowledging arrow L & R in a text editor before.

Refusing to align with OS conventions is a long standing tradition in the world of Microsoft apps though.

MS apps and even web apps overwrite the foundational gnu readline functionality on MacOS, and don't give you an opportunity to revert. This is a really wild step no other developer would even consider taking.

This comment is meant in jest, but really Teams refusing to align with Windows is perhaps the most Microsoft thing they could do.

Why does that look absolutely horrid on my screen... Not that it is anything special, but cheap gaming monitor... And I can't link single word they present to it...

To me, that's a washed out blue, not purple.

Looks purple to me, tested on:

- iPhone 13 Pro

- iPad Pro 2018 11"

- iPhone 8

- Both monitors on my Mac: MSI PS341WU and Dell P2715Q (both calibrated using DisplayCal and an Xrite ColorMunki)

Nah it’s an off grey. Purple needs to be more saturated and darker than this. It’s not just about hue. Clearly who am I to disagree with Pantone, but fuck Pantone on this particular issue I am a man on the internet and this excuse for a Color offends me

It's a violet, not a purple technically. Purples tend to be bolder, and have a closer 1:1 Red to Blue mix; while Violets are more Blue, and often softer.

You may also be a bit colorblind. Not everyone sees color the same, even among the population who is not diagnosed colorblind. Determining color is also a skill akin to tones in music. It's a combination of skill and innate ability to determine them.

Are you using a calibrated monitor and if so what color temperature and brightness did you calibrate to ? I can imagine if you calibrate to a colder color temp, which is more blueish, it might appear grey, or if you calibrated to a higher brightness it might also look more washed out.

I have mine calibrated to 6500k and 120cd/m2 and it looks very purple to me.

> Very Peri is a combination of different shades of blue and deep violet with red undertones.

It's periwinkle, no?

Check your cones

The purple is goddamn everywhere and it sticks out like a sore thumb on OLED screens. Look at YouTube app error illustrations.

Designers are more of a sheep than they would like to admit.

> Google is doing the same

Is this an A/B test thing? For me, Google still uses #1a73e8 and #1a0dab, both blue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Facebook is still as blue as ever :)

Yikes.
