Learning Equality | Full Stack Engineer | REMOTE (USA) or San Diego | Full-time

We're a cross-disciplinary team that believes in the transformative power of access to education. We're a nonprofit, we create open-source software, and our beneficiaries are in underserved communities such as rural schools, community centers, and refugee camps all over the world. We enable completely offline access (via local network, mobile app, and peer-to-peer/sneakernet distribution) to a wealth of free learning resources (things like Khan Academy) and tools to support students and educators.

We are seeking a Full Stack Engineer who identifies strongly with Learning Equality's mission to bring quality education to under-resourced communities around the world. We use Python/Django on the backend, and Vue.js on the frontend. Apply at: https://grnh.se/5b407e571us

So good. And keeps getting better!

I made a Python API wrapper in case annoying would find it useful: https://learningequality.org/r/notion-py-an-unofficial-pytho...

It has full read/write support for Notion data, with a local data store that live-updates async when data changes on Notion, including callbacks. And you can manipulate database entries using classes with columns mapped to slugified attributes.

Despite the subdomain, the IP for ChinaTelecom-gw.transtelecom.net (217.150.59.249) seems to be based in Russia, as does the carrier: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TransTelekom

Seems likely to be TT's gateway to CT. New theory: TransTelecom brought up a new gateway to ChinaTelecom, which incorrectly gossiped all advertisements from ChinaTelecom. This caused a leak, since CT has bgp highjacking of Google IP ranges for the GFW within China, but ordinarily doesn't leak them outside the country. TransTelecom misconfigured the gateway to broadcast everything advertised by ChinaTelecom, bringing external traffic into the GFW.

I doubt the GFW uses BGP to route traffic to it.

It needs to filter traffic to any address, and wouldn't have specific google ranges configured.

That's a pretty good theory.

Same thing here in San Diego. Traceroute to spotify.com going through LA, San Jose, NY, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurk, "mskn17ra-lo1.transtelecom.net", then ChinaTelecom-gw.transtelecom.net.

In San Diego, and Spotify seems down for me (and for others, according to Twitter). Some other smaller sites too.

Learning Equality | Full-stack web developers & Python developers | San Diego | https://learningequality.org/ | ONSITE (preferred) or REMOTE | Full-time

# Who we are

We're a not-for-profit team that builds open-source educational software for communities with limited or no access to the Internet. We believe in the transformative power of learning, and are passionate about social justice and breaking down barriers that prevent people from reaching their full potential.

We started 4 years ago with KA Lite (https://learningequality.org/ka-lite/), an offline-installable platform bundling Khan Academy content and our own student tracking tools, which is being used in nearly 200 countries and territories.

We're now in the process of releasing our second-generation platform, Kolibri (https://learningequality.org/kolibri/), which empowers users to create, curate, share, and learn from diverse forms of openly licensed content, both online and offline. We're building tools for authoring videos and exercises, an app ecosystem for embedding and distributing HTML5 educational bundles, features for discovering and communicating with other devices peer-to-peer over a local network, interfaces and web-based visualizations for exploring student data, and systems for motivating, engaging, and guiding learners. On the backend, we use Python/Django, and on the frontend we use Vue.js and (in one project) Backbone.js.

We recently received significant funding from Google.org to support our work (https://www.google.org/our-work/education/learning-equality/), and our team has doubled from 10 to 20 full-time staff in the past year. We're now building out further to support new initiatives, including a project for refugee education with UNHCR, and to continue to build towards our longer-term vision. It's an exciting period of growth, both for our team and for our impact, and there are lots of ways you could make a difference!

# Who you are

You care deeply about making the world a better place, believe in the power of learning, strive to promote equality, and resonate with our statement of core values (https://learningequality.org/about/values/). You love to build things, and like to think carefully about how best to serve the needs of a diverse set of users.

For convenience, here's a link to the Lyft help page for deleting your account: https://help.lyft.com/hc/en-us/articles/223281567-Delete-My-.... Unforunately, it's not possible to do yourself.

Both Lyft and Uber didn't suspend service to JFK last night because both are 24/7 platforms for anyone to drive and make money. Uber lowered/suspended surge pricing to make it affordable in/around the protests, while Lyft did not.

Worth noting is that active drivers on both platforms were likely protesting at airports all over the world.

could you post the account setup page please? i've never used lyft, i assume its basically the same service?

Doesn't operate in as many locations, but pretty much the same, and often the same drivers. Informally it appears drivers I've talked to have preferred Lyft (have asked even when they were driving for Uber). Most of course demur, but I've never heard a driver say something nice about Uber while I have had several praise Lyft.

Just to give you a counter point, I was in India recently, and most drivers I spoke to loved Uber. That could be a combination of the alternative sucking, general employer treatment of employees not being great, etc.

It's an inferior service: Much longer waits for a ride, higher fares, tipping, awkward interactions, fewer ride options, buggy (in my experience) phone apps.
