Bluesky-based Instagram alternative Flashes launches publicly (techcrunch.com)

The app offers a classic Instagram-like experience, allowing users to upload up to four photos and videos of up to a minute in length.

To me, the classic Instagram experience is no videos, reels, ads, or tie-ins to any other social network. Just photos, a few optional filters, and a short description.

I doubt anything like that is out there, unfortunately.

Personally I use Bluesky and Mastodon to post photos and I'm happy with the experience and engagement I get. I have a Pixelfed account but I don't use it, I don't see a huge amount of value over just posting on the main app.

Pixelfed and Mastodon interoperate, so indeed there's no reason to use both.

And nothing prevents it from following the Intagram's path. Please consider using Pixelfed instead, https://pixelfed.org/how-to-join.

Big update about Flashes and its future!
