Microsoft wants $30 if you want to delay Windows 11 switch (bleepingcomputer.com)

Title is a little bit click-baity. Its $30 if you want a year of extra security patches, but if you just do nothing then they don't force you onto Windows 11 and they don't magically take $30 out of your account.

Inevitably they make $300 million in revenue but most people don't pay and there are $3 billion in costs from breaches.

So, HN, what's the consensus? Are you going to switch when support for Windows 10 runs out, or are you not? Or are you going to switch to Linux?

What about for your non-tech family members?

Switched to linux when they EOLed Windows 7 (slowly migrated my workflow over in advance using Linux distros in a VM). Couple that with how good Valve has made Windows gaming on Linux, I've never looked back.

Me too, I think a lot of people did. My concerns about Linux were outdated. Never had any problems.

Well my dad is technical enough and already upgraded mom to 11 with new mini pc. I gave him my old CPU so when time comes 11 is also usable. I am lazy myself and upgrade to 11 when time comes...

I really don't see difference in level of annoy with say Ubuntu dist upgrade.. Forcing their own disagreeable changes on me...

Ubuntu is certainly opinionated, but it doesn't force your to use secure boot or create a cloud account.

Have a kid with severe Cerebral Palsy, who would (violently) not understand or appreciate any sort of upgrade/change.

Anyone using a Valve Index on Linux?

“That’s a nice Windows you got there. Would be a shame if something happened to it.”
