VR can motivate people to donate to refugee crises regardless of politics (phys.org)

Strange phrasing… makes it sound like using VR to manipulate people is a good thing

Opening people's eyes is a good thing.

That same VR can motivate people to insist on closing the borders - this would most likely be easier than getting them to donate to to some faraway 'crisis'.

Opening people's eyes is a good thing. Or?

I was watching some Youtube videos to wind down last night, when it decided to play a creepy unskippable ad for a horror movie, forcing me to turn down the volume and temporarily switch to another browser tab.

As an immigrant myself, I am completely empathetic to the refugee crisis, and believe that borders are immoral. While I am completely empathetic to the cause, I am very alarmed by the possibility of ads in a VR headset. Sounds like some Black Mirror shit.

I remember when it seemed to dissociate people even more from crises.

I suspect those two were already disassociated, or have always been ;)

Larger sample size that doesn't just include sociopaths is more informative

Could people deal with the root cause of “refugee crises” by not electing warmongering politicians? Or is that too much to ask?

360 video is a pretty compelling empathy tool

Making an emotionally manipulative documentary even more visceral and emotionally manipulative makes it even more effective as propaganda, big surprise.

In other news, bears are Catholic and the Pope shits in the woods.

This is just this aspect. One which we can sell as a good aspect. The sinister side is that this same control will be used to manipulate people into all sorts of things, including commercial interests, social interests, economic, etc.

If they can, they will utilize this to mold people, make no mistake. This is kind of a trojan horse to apply some lipstick over this pig.
