are you really so far removed from physical reality that you can't understand how something as completely inconsequential to everyday life as the privacy of one's genetic code could be disregarded by actual people, or is that just a neurotic response to not being able to explain why it's important?



It's harder for me to recognize sarcasm these days but in case you're serious, sharing your genetic code may have serious consequences for your everyday life. If it were inconsequential, people would share theirs on their social media profiles. In correlation with the code of others, other people can discover things about you you have no idea about, and I personally know one such case. Usually in cases like this one there is some family drama in play.

Then, as for potential illnesses, etc. - the problem is that we currently know just a tiny bit of this complex machinery, so if someone has your code today, tomorrow they can know more about you just as science progresses and our understanding of how various genes influence our organisms deepens.
