Money + a certain kind of ambition.

There are some rich people who inherit it who are as dumb as a post. Other people who make money are single-mindedly attached to business in a certain way but not really curious or creative (you can do that in sales, real estate, and many other fields.)

Seems like a weak conjecture, since it's so contrary to common sense. Are there any modern or historical examples?

I would look at Elon Musk when he is at his best, at his worst I don’t know if he is Caligula, Nero or King Zhou.

Note plenty of richies invest in projects that don’t really go anywhere like “Breakthrough Starshot”. Myself if I had Musk’s money I don’t know if I’d rather build one of these

(Was lucky to meet the author, that guy has written papers on so many near science-fiction energy sources) or buy an island and start breeding really big ostriches (Jurassic Park) or try to teach sign language gorillas to teach sign language to their offspring or something like that.

I concur. I don't even see what philosophy this thread is trying to drive.

The same apply for cooking, buy the best ingredients and the chances of getting praised by your cooking skills are high.

Do people think the Koch brothers are geniuses? How about Dwayne Johnson?

I'm sure there are quite a few people who do, yes.
