The Rimac Nevera Has Broken the Production EV Nurburgring Lap Record (thedrive.com)

A car with a production run of 150 units and a list price around $2.2M [1] doesn't really seem like a "production" car in my mind.

$2.2M ain't what it used to be. I bet more than 150 people who could actually afford the loan on that car have already read your comment.

You can buy it, but you can't afford it.

It is though, so you’re free to think whatever you want, but you’re wrong. See: unemployment rate.

Marques Brownlee recently drove one of these for his Auto Focus channel [0]

0-200mph in 10 seconds…crazy stuff. It feels quite apt that Rimac is now part of Bugatti given this seems like the electric equivalent of the Chiron.

I particularly liked how he described the way the brakes work in every hybrid and electric car ever made as "clever".

He’s not a car guy, so him expanding into this space is new for him.

Same for when he tries to talk about gaming and only tries games like NBA or a race game.

> expanding into this space

Almost certainly arranged as a marketing thing from Bugatti, gotta make the 2mio+ cars cool to the important 12-25 consumer "tech" crowd for reasons.

Yes, this is how marketing works. Brands try to expand the appeal of their products beyond their existing user base.

His face at the end of the first run is very funny. But with 100 miles range I think I would like the 911 a lot more. Not that I have that kind of money.

I took away that it was 100 miles in Track Mode. In Range Mode it was a lot more. Not sure how much.

Ah that makes more sense, yes then it would have quite a bit more probably as much as two or three times that in 'regular' mode.

The C&D article suggests 205 miles, which is presumably a brand new battery in warm climate.

I'm not a car guy, and I loved Marques' video, too... but for $2.x million, you'd hope road mode would give you a bit more rope. Tesla S has different tiers, but they all seem to be over 400 miles.

This seems more like a bucket list experience. Go to a closed track, pay high three-figures, sign six forms, drive really fast for an hour.

I don't care how much you're worth; driving a $2.xM car around is just asking for fate to slap you down. I would have stress nightmares.

Jerry Seinfeld knows what I mean.

I don't think the requirements are the same for this and a Tesla (or a VW). You are not buying groceries with this. This is a toy you drive in order to drive it, not in order to get somewhere far.

> Tesla S has different tiers, but they all seem to be over 400 miles.

It's better to be than to seem:

I think Bugatti is part of Rimac, not the other way around.

> The Nevera is clearly grip limited, otherwise it could go much faster.

A sane human being not covered in armor like this pilot would do a fraction of that speed.

And it'd be scary enough.

250 is scary enough. Did it once and won't ever try it again.

At 250 most things want to fly and if they aren't really well designed to stay on the ground they may do just that.

Nevera means refrigerator in Spanish. Reminds me of the urban legend that says the Chevy Nova sold poorly in Latin America because it translates to “no-go”.

Check out the book "International Business Blunders". It's the only biz book that ever made me LOL.

Let's not mention the Mitsubishi Pajero.

Lol, I didn't know the meaning of Pajero in Spanish. It was a popular SUV among the rich and famous in India back in the day. Given their driving shenanigans with the vehicle, the meaning seems apt.

Rich assholes having fun and breaking records is so exciting. Not. You know what would really impress me? If they increased the salaries they pay.

Not in the “article”:

- who held the record this far with what time

- what’s the non-EV record

Previous EV record was the Porsche Taycan Turbo S with 7:33.3.

Non-EV record is held by the Mercedes-AMG One with 6:30.7.

And it sounds quite nice, without any fake engine noise. Hyundai again has lessons to learn. What a shit brand.
