Nikon Z9 Update Turns It into an Intelligent Camera Trap (petapixel.com)

The Z9 is an amazing camera. Before its release, Nikon was starting to look a little shaky going up against Canon and Sony. My one big complain is they did not open their lens mount spec the way Sony did and that has reduced the number of available lenses available.

The Z-mount situation is not great (AFAIK the short version is that Nikon only allows third-party Z-mount lenses that don't directly compete with existing first-party Z-mount lenses), but at least it's better than the Canon RF-mount situation. Canon currently doesn't allow third party RF lenses, period.

But yes both are blown away by far by the huge variety of third party E-mount lenses now available.

Apparently Meike have announced a Canon-approved RF lens and there's rumors of Sigma having a couple coming too.

This makes me happy I switched from Nikon to Sony.

I am a Sony shooter who used to use Canon, but that review makes me a little jealous for Nikon shooters. Definitely though the third party lenses for Sony are great, back when I used Canon I thought of Sigma lenses as promising but problematic but now I think they are great.
