Interesting. That would invalidate everything written by https://oalexanderdk.substack.com/ . But see https://twitter.com/OAlexanderDK/status/1666115592133156864 . The source of WPs information seems to be shaky.

this is hilarious ... because it was almost obvious all along but voicing it had you labelled a conspiracy nut.

this was never plausibly on behalf of russia and no country would do sth like that without checking back with the states - whose president btw basically just announced something like that would happen on television.

sometimes what you need isn't intel but common sense and some unbiased knowledge of contemporary politics and history.

> it was almost obvious all along but voicing it had you labelled a conspiracy nut

The nutty accusation was America. Ukraine was doubtful on account of capability and cost benefit. From the American perspective, the "intelligence brief [fingering Kyiv] appears to have been based off a single source in Ukraine’s government, raising doubts in the US intelligence community" [1].

Even suggesting that it was America wasn't that nutty. To be a nut, you had to go in for Sy Hersh's "reporting", which wasn't even internally consistent, and had a much larger scope than just a single covert operation.

Agree. America is far from exonerated. It’s just wild how we follow up strings of failures with presumed clairvoyance and capability, both in intelligence and operations.

American signals and geospatial intelligence are excellent. Our human and technical intelligence is garbage.

they knew it ... there is absolutely no way the us didn't know about it. only question is how explicit the communication was between the executing group and the cia. at this point it's ridiculous to assume anything else.

> there is absolutely no way the us didn't know about it

American intelligence is far from omniscient or even unusually competent. We seem to repeatedly forget this, which regularly leads to mis-steps.

first things first - did that group need support by the cia? no - because for any state actor bombing a pipeline at a depth of 80m is technically trivial. did they need an explicit okay to do it? no - joe biden basically asked for it on television. so, i give you that there probably were no conspiratorial meetings taking place. but if the us didn't know what is going on on the very patch of sea separating russia from mainland europe then snowden is the yeti and satellite technology a hoax.

> if the us didn't know what is going on on the very patch of sea separating russia from mainland europe then snowden is the yeti and satellite technology a hoax

You’re describing a hired private vessel covertly executing a mission with Zelenskyy in the dark. Yes, this could easily have escaped American intelligence’s notice. We don’t patrol that pipeline.
