Many a night spent typing and troubleshooting programs found in this and Compute! magazine in the early 80s. Just took another look today and forgot just how great these magazines were.
The BYTE AI issue posted recently on HN was exemplary in terms of scope and interesting articles.
Like others here I particularly appreciated BYTE's magnificent understatement that "Some attributes of [the Xerox Alto] will be used in the next generation of personal computers."
BYTE even managed to include advertisements that were likely to be of interest to the magazine's readers.
I enjoy a couple of the (very few) surviving computing enthusiast magazines such as Linux Format, and I wish there were more of them - especially if they were like BYTE and its peers.
