I think meta is being too precious and fussy with horizon worlds.
People don't like it because it's meant to be this curated family-friendly plastic-happiness group-hug thing. Guess what, adults don't like this.
We all have rough edges and that part of our time we really find the most exciting is found by playing with the edges of our comfort zone. Not just when our clothes come off but also things like horror etc. Horizons pretends that space doesn't exist. It focuses on this kid-friendly world and obviously kids have the least spending power.
Also they've been too careful. Moderators constantly looking over our shoulders. EU users only being allowed recently. No wonder people aren't using it because a lot of them just couldn't!
I see they're upping their game now because when I create a room I can now mark it as adult. Still it doesn't really allow nudity etc but it's a good step in the right direction.
It's often mentioned that betamax lost to VHS because it didn't allow porn. That the internet got big because of it. These things are not really true and are much more complex in reality however I do think these points would have been part of the overall equation. Facebook is making the same mistake once again by pretending it has zero influence on the success of a platform. That's not true either. Those furries on VRChat are drivers of the platform. They're helping to make it big, not an impediment.
... what community? It's more fun hanging out with the furries on VR Chat!
