They just fussed two chromosomes of a mice into a longer one. The title in the scmp "fully reprogrammed genes" is just wrong.
This kind of fusion happens naturally, but usually the offspring is not fertile or has a lot of problems during the development and dies. Every few millions years one of this fusions creates a viable animal and with some good luck the offspring grows. Unless you are a biologist working in animal evolution, or a genetist, or someone with a similar profession, this results looks pretty safe to ignore.
