It may have been a compromise from my request that we replace numeric karma scores with something like "lots" after some threshold.

why would you want to do that? genuinely curious

Not the OP, but I see 2 reasons:

- avoid a competition that encourages people to just farm karma, which adds noise;

- avoid a kind of argument from authority, where some people get more influence than their points deserve just because they are high on the table.

Because high karma scores are mostly just embarrassing.
