Plex Media Server is pushing ads as push notifications (reddit.com)

Does old.reddit.com not display embedded images? To see what this post is about, I had to change the URL to https://reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/uu2ne8/wtf_plex_you_strea...

You have to push the Play symbol right below the title to view it... https://i.imgur.com/ONZbB7u.png

I think that is a somewhat new behavior for old.reddit.com... Reddit is trying to cripple it slowly?

Hrm. I had to log in to get that behavior. Not logged in, my browser on old.reddit.com renders the Play button as a small, hollow, barely visible box.

That might be because of the custom theme of the subreddit... I don't allow them to show me custom themes when logged in

Ah yes, does Hacker News automatically change the URLs to old.reddit.com? The link I posted is reddit.com but it's been changed to old.reddit.com

Yes, it seems to.

Thankfully Plex Media Server can't push ads to PlexKodiConnect, which all my SBC/OSMC/LibreElec boxes with Kodi use as a backend.

Always got my eye on Jellyfish development though.

As someone looking to self-host their own media server soon, is there any reason you haven’t done the switch over to Jellyfin?

Last time I used it, syncing the metadata (media details, watched status resume points, etc) across multiple clients wasn't good enough for me.

I have 3 Kodi clients, all on the same LAN, and it never worked properly. I switched to PlexMediaServer, the PlexKodiConnect plugin, and have been relatively happy -- other than Plex knowing what media my generic email address is consuming.

Perhaps I shall take another look at Jellyfin and see if I can move over completely.

Jellyfin has less clients than Plex and a lot of the clients they have are less mature than their Plex counterparts.

Personally I don't really mind that, as I mostly watch on my PC, Phone or Kodi, all of which have decent clients imo.

I skipped over Plex and just used Jellyfin and I haven't had any issues in the 13 or so months I've been running it.

I have disabled all Plex TV features and I don't get this sort of notifications.

I don't even understand why this topic receives so much attention. It's just a matter of disabling features one doesn't need.

Gross offer up does this which is why I had to stop using it
