Erm.. it's not like the lightbulb just got invented.

No, but I thought it would be at least polite, having noticed the change, to express my appreciation for the work PG does.

Agreed.

First: great that the title formatting has been changed!

Second: come on HN, do we really need a post about this on the front page..?

I disagree. The important thing here is appreciating about something. To be honest, I had never noticed the title showing 'Hacker News' at front before. I only open one link at a time to keep focus. To be honest I learned something today with this post: > Next time I write my website, I will treat title bar to be a scarce resource, and won't put any unnecessary stuff. > I will test my website by at least opening multiple tabs. > If you find something useful, or notice something changed that you really liked, don't forget to appreciate it.

I liked it and mailed the link to this to myself if only as an example of subtle (non-obvious) user-friendly things that can be done on a site. It's not too gushy (I'm not a fan of fanboism) but it's better to get constructive feedback of this type sometimes than the often bitter HN-bashing that seems to be the norm for folks who are invested enough to have an opinion and desire to share it.

I'd prefer to read an appreciative post about a positive and helpful change than somebody bashing HN or any other site (which rarely happens).

Personally I always have about ten tabs open so its handy when I can go straight to the HN tab that I want.

How else can HN get feedback on changes?
