Builder.ai and the Air India website: What’s going on? (businesstoday.in)

I saw the ads and it definitely was ambiguous whether builder.ai and AI were working together or not. Looks like Builder.ai is simply trying to cash in on the buzz around the Tata group taking over Air India.

Otoh, AI threatening legal action gives too much weight to a dumbass ad campaign. They should have trotted out a spokesperson to poke fun at a unsolicited gift saying they’re returning it to sender.

have you actually seen the ad?

they're pretending there is partnership between them and Air India but there is none

then they use Air India trademarks for their own advertisement

then they start a contest on behalf of Air India

imho, they definitely should be getting sued

The notice of the legal action [1]. AI seems to have a fair concern - risk of data theft.

Trademarks are use it, protect it, or lose it. AI not acting on blatant trademark infringement might see them losing their trademarks.

off topic, but they have a very suspect pricing page: https://www.builder.ai/studio-store

"Delivery: 12 weeks"

is Builder.ai just a CRUD app for indian sweatshops to build the apps?

It would not have spawned an entire industry and no code websites every other week or so if it was ‘just a CRUD app’. Also, Curious as to what makes you think its a sweatshop? Did you come across any adverse reports of their offerings? If yes, please do share. If not, please stop slandering!

Using another company's brand deceptively is a textbook example of trademark infringement.

Being cavalier about it won't do good in court either. RIP Builder.ai

It’s Indian court. “It won’t do good in court” in 2045.

I just don't understand why. Like I get it they are trying to get more eyeballs on them, but the ads sure made it seem like Builder.ai and Air India were doing some sort of collaboration (almost as if Air India was building a new site on top of Builder.ai). This is like the corporate version of girls on Instagram saying they are "sponsored by" when in reality they are not sponsored by anyone and are just trying to get clout.

Fake it till you make it gone bad.

How stupid is Builder.ai?

To even think that Air India will contract an app to them when they are the parent company of TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) is extremely moronic.

TCS has a global presence, and they get contracts from the largest everythings of India (including the India Post site, the State Bank of India's site, for example). They also handle the online exams for IIT entrances, bank promotion exams, and so on. I think you get the picture.

And Tata owns them both.

It's pretty much given that if Air India creates an app, it's TCS who will build it.

They're creating a lot of attention for little money. Strikes me as a rather successful ad campaign.

This kind of publicity is only valuable if the product you're selling is supposed to be subversive. Works great for controversial movies and music.

Probably doesn't work as well for a SaaS app that could be sued out of existence.

Successful in me noting to avoid anything having to do with builder.ai and engineer.ai in the future. Although the .ai domain was going to heavily lean me that way anyway.

It will be successful if they survive the legal challenge and on good terms. Otherwise that company is toast.

Air India is world's worst airline, and TCS is probably world's worst IT outsourcer as well by a large margin.

Seeing the horror stories of underpaid pilots, terrible or nonexistent food service on ultra long haul flights, and growing maintenance backlogs during their perpetual “vande bharat” thing has been unsettling. India to this day does not allow “scheduled international flights” originally due to Covid but now just to keep the airline in business for the sale to finalize

I agree with what you want to say.

But how does that influence what I said?

Would you say that Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, or HCL are better than TCS?

(I know quite a few people working in those companies, and the consensus seems to be that TCS is the least bad among the WITCH companies. Correct me if I am wrong.)

> Would you say that Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, or HCL are better than TCS?

TCS is very ceremonious, and bureaucratic on top of all other bads of giant outsourcing companies.

To be fair, their prototype looks 100x better than their existing app/website and would definitely look 200x better than any shit design TCS(owned by the same parent company as Air India which is Tata) would ever come up with.

Feeling kinda sorry for builder.io having such a similar name - i immediately thought of them when i saw the name. The major downsides of a generic name i guess.

They should have done the startuppy thing and misspelled it intentionally: "BVLDR" wouldn't have had this issue.

Are there any legit businesses using the .ai TLD?

[flagged]

It doesn't matter if you're Indian. Painting with a brush that thick is absolutely disgusting.

"Given the level of incredible and unrelenting misbehavior by Indians", unbelievable.

+100.

Dissing a billion people does not make you cool. It makes you ignorant.

They should have used the magic word “systematic” and then all would have been accepted.

Systematic means "across the board, following an intentional plan" so it's also a broad brush statement. Presumably you meant systemic, which actually does have a specific meaning and wouldn't really apply here. It's a common misconception though.

I am indian we do have the "chalta hai" attitude towards life. Its a generality. GP made that point in a crass way though.
