Yes, the handling of this situation is deplorable, but nothing is perfect.
This case is a good example of "Fuck with a bull and you get the horns.".
It does not matter if that bull claims to be a fascist in communist guise as is common in China or if this bull is of the Western persuasion.

However, if this decision is not made in favor, then there is no protection and laws do apply. That, however, is a matter for another discussion. Together with prosecuting war crimes. As pointed out by at least one British pundit, the founder of WikiLeaks would have been celebrated and hailed as a hero by the West, instead of facing extradition to the US. Unfortunately, he exposed Western, especially American crimes, rather than Chinese ones
If Julian, an Australian citizen, leaked top secret Chinese intelligence and evidence of war crimes, he would be on a beach in Australia surfing with his family right now.
Assange leaked documents showing US military killing innocent civilians in cold blood! Chinese military haven't killed yet; probably they will do in the next World War in around 15 years.
