The Silent Type: On (possibly) being Bob Dylan’s son (harpers.org)

Well after reading that I’ll never listen to Tangled Up In Blue quite the same way again.

I always wondered which "Italian poet from the 13th century" he was referring to. If true, turns out it's a 14th century poet.

That wouldn't be the first time something like this happened. It comes to mind that the album titled "John Wesley Harding" is named after the outlaw John Wesley Hardin (no g). I'm genuinely not sure if these changes are a result of sloppiness or creativity.

Bob Dylan built his career on dropping 'g's, then out of the blue just added one. Some 54 years later and people are still talking about it.

"Her hands tightened on the steering wheel. For the first time in all our talks on the subject, I sensed from her something more than reticence. The ambiguity of whether I was Dylan’s child was so much less important than the certainty that I was hers. I hadn’t seen that, and she was hurt. We drove the rest of the way in silence."

This is a good read and defies easy attempts to categorize it. Besides, doing so might steal some of the delightful surprise it contains.

Wow, that was a good read.
