Open Source Stash seems to be opinionated (for lack of a better word) and there doesn't seem to be a way to submit projects to it in the public (like a pull-request for example where a discussion can be had) but only privately to the maintainer (ironic, for a webpage maintaining a collection of OSS software)? Also, I need to allow countless third-party services (uMatrix puts the count at 51) to even make the website work. I wish that weren't the case.

This other website I have been using is likely more comprehensive, no-gimmicks, and fast: https://awesomeopensource.com/

"Also, I need to allow countless third-party services (uMatrix puts the at 51) to even make the website work."

This "website" is nothing more than a spreadsheet transformed into a dumpster fire of gratuitous Javascript and third party requests with https://spreadsimple.com.

For the raw XML,

https://doc-10-7k-sheets.googleusercontent.com/export/l5l039...

Need to remove HTTP headers and chunking, then unzip.

HTML instead of PDF:

Maybe it's just me but this points to a PDF export. The /edit suffix is getting changed to /export?format=pdf. The "non-clickable" link points to /edit which gives me an HTML version.

I just clicked it in Chrome and Mobile Safari and they both bring me to a regular Google Sheets web page. I tried in incognito mode too and it was the same.

What browser are you using?

And a browser extension that suggests open-source alternatives based on the current page's URL: https://github.com/nileshtrivedi/better

It also allows you to submit new recommendations via the extension itself which submits a pull request to its GitHub project.

What's interesting is that: the extension lets you subscribe to multiple sources for recommendations (much like adblocking filters). This means that curation of alternatives can be done by people YOU trust and could incorporate criteria other than license: Ethical, Low-priced, Locally produced, Sustainable etc.

Another list https://alternativeshub.gitlab.io/ with the rankings. Found Photopea here. Seems to be based on the awesome list too.

Note that while Photopea is free to use, it is neither open source, nor source available. It’s free to use (free as in beer) proprietary software.

Not to say Photopea isn’t fantastic (it is!), but in the context of this thread (open source software) it may not be suitable for many.

In the about page, it says that the curator doesn't have any coding experience and has been checking out the no code movement.

I think that explains why this website isn't open source itself.

Here I am with Firefox Focus staring at an almost blank page (except for three page links) because of content and tracker blockers. I usually don’t even bother to explore further in such cases.

Since we're sharing links, here's another good resource:

Here is one for CLI utilties. https://github.com/agarrharr/awesome-cli-apps

they list brave, but not firefox! I take offense to that! :)

Ah the good old my browser is better than yours trope
