I'm so lost as to why you think I'm suggesting it's one thing...

Ubuntu is one example of a Linux distribution. It's an example of a Linux distribution with advertising. Which is the point I'm making re: OP's message about "you people" when saying that this is a uniquely windows issue. Look to Ubuntu to see how this can exist in the Linux community.
