Also looking at you, HN commenters. Keep your fucking theory of consciousness to yourself please, and go learn about what practicing neuroscientists actually do.
…
In summary, shut the fuck up.
No matter how ignorant other commenters may appear to be, it's never appropriate to be uncivil on HN. The rest of your comment stands just fine without expressions like these.
That's irrelevant. Whatever rumors or gossip you may have heard about Koch. What you think scientists should be working on. Particularly misplaced is your baffling comparison with Kaku. Koch, a longtime professor at Caltech with over 80,000 citations on the field vs a complete and utter outsider, as well as crackpots on HN, as though their expertise is somewhat equivalent.
In the story at hand, Koch came up with a new tracing technique, found a remarkable structure. That's what the article is about.
The truth, if it exists, doesn't need some cranky anon guarding it, and if it required guarding it could do better. If you have something which you think is "truth" to offer, then offer it, don't just claim to have it while spreading rumors.
I can even understand your frustration with the pseudoscientific climate around the issue of consciousness, but if you're unable to express it in a constructive way, then you're worse than useless for your own stated cause.
Maybe you should figure out what neuroscientists think the brain is doing and how it computes before telling others to shut the fuck up? They taught us in undergrad.
Be on HackerNews since it was created, still don't have the Karma to downvote this shit, or the other various smear campaigns on here.
