Any recommendations for Linux based laptops for software development that is < $1000?

Get an older Dell XPS 15. Newer gen are above this price point but 2-3 gen back will be very nice.

Battery, WiFi chip, memory, and storage are all upgradeable; you'll just be signing up for a given chip generation. L

A Framework laptop starts at about $1050. Mine is truly the best Linux laptop I've ever owned.

I agree. Why would I download an app for something that can be done in a browser?

also, something you will do a couple times at most a year.

There are actually power users in this space who might need the tool on a weekly basis. It's niche, but they exist.

Right on. This is who the tool was built for

You're 25 and working in this space for 8 years?

I made more money per month as a 17 yo at the end of the dotcom boom than I did the decade after...

But back to the advice: don't sell your house... Get a less demanding job, even 4 days a week, and side hustle the project.

Also considering finishing your degree as a hedge (assuming it doesn't cost too much, I guess it does in the USA).

Yes, started volunteering at 16, got an offer soon and went fulltime. Dropped out of university. At some time I was working on two jobs, one part time of course, and did some freelance while still working full time.

And owning a house. Are you sure you're owning the house, not the bank?

Curious about career advancement with this approach? Does this get you promoted and does this get you work on more interesting projects?

Thats not how promises work.

Sure can. The Microsoft plan allows you to ungoogle yourself.

Get a @your-domain-name email which comes with the same corporate outlook with calendar integration and everything else that comes with it.

Also, 1 TB.

Another good option is Apple - they charge reasonably 0.99$ for 50 GB

Finally, dropbox is really good too and I have been using them since the beginning.

You know that was the worst decision of Jobs' life, right?

I'd put it differently: It was a great pitch, just aimed at the wrong person

Is visa okay?

Are you sponsoring Visas?

US Citizenship required?

Most likely yes. You would probably have to be a citizen and secret clearance.

I don't want to speak for Kessel Run, but citizen: probably. Secret clearance: if needed, they'll pull you through that process and that will be a thing of value you get from such a job that you can put on your resume for future jobs (clearances are typically good for 10 years).
