I was surprised they weren't using Kiln [https://www.fogcreek.com/kiln/], a Fog Creek product. I know SO is independent from Fog Creek now, but still a bit surprised at it. I wonder if there was a migration off at some point.

Yep...for the on-premise reasons listed in the article. Once upon a time a lot of projects were on Mercurial, hosted by Kiln. The Stack Overflow repo specifically has always been on an internal Mercurial and then Git server. Originally this was for speed, now it's for speed and reliability/dependency reduction.

I can whole-heartedly recommend the entire team at Watsi. Not only are they awesome to be around, but they are extremely competent. No one I know is better prepared to address healthcare than they are. The trips to visit their patients and providers are just icing on the cake.

Python's PyPI gets donations from Rackspace (hosting) and Fastly (CDN) to run. See the note at the bottom of https://pypi.python.org/pypi

FWIW, South won't totally be necessary after Django 1.7. Django 1.7 is getting support for migrations built-in.

I'd really like to see a way to integrate the history for services like Facebook Chat and Google Hangouts when not using the app. With Google Chat, the app could use IMAP to get the chat history for non-Flamingo chats, but with the switch to Hangouts, that method is no longer possible. It seems Takeout is the only way to get the Hangout message history (https://code.google.com/p/google-plus-platform/issues/detail...).

IMO, the lack of true global history is the biggest limitation of a native app for using many IM services.

He said he used the Notes app built into his iPhone.

Thanks! Definitely makes sense with his emphasis on simplicity.

Tip - I also use Notes and I change the default account to gmail so I can recover accidental deletions.

I recently built my own desk too. I live in an old victorian with a curved window. The only way to fit a desk there was to create my own.

I went with a walnut top, and then got some legs from Ikea so I could adjust the height to where I'd like. I think next time, I'd make my own legs for even great stability.

Besides doing the finish, the process is super easy. Just lots of sanding. I posted some photos to Instagram, which then synced to Flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisstreeter/sets/721576366662... One note is that these photos are pre-27" monitor, so the desk looks a bit more complete now.
