I'm not a gamer, in fact I think they are mostly poison for the brain, but I really REALLY appreciate what steam/valve/ proton whoever has done to help bring people over to the FOSS side. Ive converted a lot of kids when before I couldn't convert anyone :-)
Exactly. As someone who plays games but doesn't smoke or drink (which are also leisure activities), those are way more socially accepted and probably closer to "poison".
But it's okay because as you said, everything in moderation.
I'm OK if Organic Maps isn't designed for the average ignorant user. I've been using it for over a year now and its great, don't need it ruined so a bunch of casuals can download it
I hope I live long enough to see sales people eliminated. In solar, they contribute the least to the process yet gobble up 30% of the money. It is a total waste of taxpayer money, adoption would be a lot faster if we got rid of the greedy freeloaders
How is a salesman a waste of taxpayer money?
I'm not a big fan of fakes people. But some do add value. There are a lot of cases were the middleman is important.
In USA people get tax credits for installing solar. The cost of solar has gone down, the cost to the consumer has remained the same or increased. It is sales people eating up that margin, which is being paid for by tax payers
I think it depends on the industry. In a specialized niche (B2B), sure.
In something like new auto sales, all of the information is available online and is usually more comprehensive and accurate than that offered by a car salesman. YouTube probably sells more cars than car salesmen these days (in terms of locating a product that meets your needs and convincing you to buy it)
I don't think anyone is suggesting that salesmen be forbidden, only that it should also be allowable to sell directly. Tesla, for example, has showrooms where people can learn about vehicles and try them out. But they don't order via a salesman whose comp depends directly on how many upsells are made.
I homeschool my kids comp sci stuff, because public schools are not preparing children at all, they are just indoctrination centers for google, Microsoft or Apple. In my fight to let my kids bring their own laptops, the administration said they were switching over to tablets soon

The "bad apples" phrase is often (usually?) misused. The whole saying is: "One bad apple spoils the barrel". In general, it refers to corruption, and especially bent coppers. Here in the UK, we recently had the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police saying that the rash of rapists in the Met is just "a few bad apples".
It's not just a question of taint; if you leave the "bad apples" in there, you'll end up with no good apples at all.
