Mozilla is way better then the others but still not great.
The numbers are so low because people do not care about any privacy whatsoever. I hope the pay the price one day and regret it.
To name just one reason FFX sync is prate and secure by default unless all the others who use your bookmarks to sell them. You by default (you can disable it) share all you bookmarks with Google. Hell yeah hi Google I have torrent sites or whatever PRIVATE stuff bookmarked. Here have it all and store it instill I am dead. And when I find out about it and disable it you already have what I need from my initial sync. Thanks yeah you are so nice to me Google.
I know a few year(s)? ago FFX was still the most user in Germany (where people generally do care more about privacy and things like that). But when I look at the stats now it seems Google has managed to even Brainwash the Germans.
Mozilla is not even very good on the claims they have. They may be working closely with the Tor browser team but I think Firefox should essentially become something like the Tor browser. Their Addons have become a walled garden as the recent cause about that paywall prevention Addon that got kicked of the "store" showed. If I got that right people can not even install it in stable versions of FFX.
Also that "Profile" Generator showed here on HN as well shows they have several deeps flaws in the browsers that need addons for fixing like canvar tracking and stuff I did not even know about. The Tor brower does all this things by default. Why does Firefox do not even have UI to some of those settings and others even need extra addons ...
I could go on. Here I am criticizing Mozilla when I actually thing there are the best browser Vendor ever. They are an non-profit. They have done so many great things for the web and there was only as extreme short tiem where I was about to switch to Chromium because the devtools or Firebox where really really slow and clunky. I am a Forefox user from the very start and I am really disgusted how Google pushed their Browser in their searches to the point that even Linux users who have if they really want to install Chromium. They should just use FFX. But what are they doing? They install Chrome. Google has even brianwashed Linux users into thinking they need Chrome. Chrome is 99% chromium with 1% proprietary Google crap on top of it. If really baffles me how stupid people are.
I lost could on how many Linux tutorials and "First things to do after installing ..." I read that had Chrome in there. Just yesterday I read a top answer on AskUbuntu about how to enabled unattended installs for PPAs and Chrome was yet again there in the example. Chromimum is right there in the sources you Idiots. Why would you infest your almost entirely open source OS with this Google crap?
Firefox is a good browser and Quantum made is faster and less resource hungry. Mozilla works on this new Browser engine with Samsung that speeds things up by a lot. Many parts are already in FFX today but I think the main parallel GPU rendering stuff is not yet. Not up to speed with that. Anyway Chrome may be "faster" in benchmarks or "feel faster" but believe me this few milliseconds are really really not worth it.
Mozilla also (until now) allows Adnauseam that clicks every ads it finds, based on uBlock origin. Chrome forbids this Addon lol but you inlike in FFX just can sideload it. I love that concept and its the Adblocker I use. It may help them with tracking me but I just love the fact that I might cause them pay per click losses.
Mozilla is not as good and as anti advertising as I would like them to. I mean Google payed 40% of their income at a time how independent can they be? They redirect search tos the this evil data snake for money to this day. I heared their CEO talk about how she likes some ads but she does not like the tracking lol. So she wants ads that do not relate to her so why not just no ads at all?
Oh the other hand where would they be without Google money? I am wondering if they would be able to make it crowd funded with Wikipedia style "annoy beg to donate ads" across half the screen.
More around 90% of the income. I think they would sustain better at a smaller capacity Wikipedia-style, but not 1000+ people multinationally. The ROI doesn't seem to be there versus the growth.
I can read you because I went to my settings and turned on "showdead". But you are shadowbanned, so you don't know you're banned. It sucks and it's really mean; it's a big thing I don't like about this website.
RWE (well like pretty much every big cooperation) is very corrupt and immoral. They for example fought hard against Germany's plans to end Atom Power plants. So I am not really to happy about this news. They are in for the money thats it.
I think this is absolutely sick, I know there are way more horrible experiments scientists do with animals but this gives me the creeps. Its just sick, let nature but nature and stop messing around with it. Seriously if this continues we have AI that breeds Humans as their power or brain source and the matrix becomes reality.
I do not think this is a rational response. I get that the "knee-jerk" reaction might be one of total disgust (I know because I also had it reading this), but there should be a bit of rational thought put into what would be the consequences of this.
Because AI growing humans and the Matrix becoming reality is a little bit on the "surreal paranoid" side of life, given the current state of scientific knowledge.
On that same train of thought, but with a more realistic outlook, we could just think of the many difficult pregnancy cases that women might face that this development might help solve. And by difficult cases I mean situations where women who want a child face complications during pregnancy.
And generally (even though I'm a natural pessimist), I think it's best to have a positive outlook towards the products of our own curiosity. They might bring trouble, but there are very few other natural catalysts to progress other than curiosity. War comes to mind as an alternative, but I believe that is less than desired.
disgust is a useful expression but I'm not sure I would rely on it to make choices and strange imagined futures. I'm glad that your disgust was vivid enough to conjure such a future in your head though!
Oh yeah it may help humans, in the future mothers can simply skip the "annoying" part of being pregnant. Thats great the future is here women can stay sexy and thin, being naturally pregnant will be totally out. Welcome to the brave new world.
Awesome who cares about animals if we can help humans.
And yeah downvote me because I do not embrace this unhuman future.
I just quickly fond this, I was actually looking for a fact that Wales also created some sort of thing that helped the corrupt government do corrupt things. That is actually even missing from that list.
He is married to Kate Garvey is an English public relations executive and a former aide to prime minister Tony Blair. He is a establishment shill and not a independent person. Even if he would be I do not want anyone decide for me what is fake news or not.
The entire fake news hype is getting really annoying. It's the governments way to introduce censorship via backdoor.
How about you go down the list step by step and actually debunk the claims instead of claiming the source is not reliable. What is actually wrong in that article?
Clap Clap you read a Wikipedia Article. Yes I trust Michael Adams with a lot of stuff, not everything. Yes I am a horrible anti-waxxer anti GMO who dares to believe that natural healthy lifestyle is better that taking a lot of chemicals sold by big Pharma. And yes I am also a "conspiracy theorist" (CIA invented term to shut down opposition after the JFK assassination) Nobody in their right minds can believe their magic bullet lone wolf assassin fairytale, and in fact about around 50% of Americans do not. I am actually well educated on many topics that Natural News covers and mainly not from Natural News, still coming to the same conclusions.
On the German Wikipedia they have a lot of defamatory Articles about people who dare to question the status quo. They refuse to let up edit the Articles objectively and it has been proven that the admins, the top 200 of Wikipedias Editors and Admins are in fact organized in various radical leftists organizations. And that they abuse their power and are anything but unbiased.
Horrible argument. Because others so something shameful does not mean you have to support someone who does the same thing. I would love to see Googles, M$, Apple, ... Reputation "assassinated" as well. And a lot of stuff is legal that is horrible and a hell of a lot of stuff is illegal that is totally fine. Like smoking a joint. So using legal/illegal as a argument is really bad.
If course laws that make this illegal would be great, still "uncalled for" is your opinion. I in fact call to public-ally shame every company who sells user data for profit. I am disgusted by "free" stuff. I would rather pay for something then to get something "for free". That why I have a payed protonmail instead of letting google read my mails to name one example.
To some people (like you), online privacy is of immense value -- seemingly almost an inalienable right alongside, life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
To others, online privacy has little to no value.
I'm somewhere in the middle.
Don't you think services like this should be freely available for people who don't value online privacy like you do? It doesn't seem right to project your value system onto others when both can peacefully co-exist...
A logical solution that would protect both parties would regulate the transparency by which businesses must communicate these data sharing practices. I just don't see the logic around why any company who shares user data is automatically evil and worthy of assassination.
You were likely down-voted more because your first comment doesn't add anything substantive to the discussion rather than for the language you used. As the guidelines ask, please don't comment on being downvoted, as it makes for boring reading. And doing so in the manner you did is definitely uncalled for.
If you are referring to the word "shit," it is not forbidden here and is not likely the reason you were downvoted. I have a terrible potty mouth. I try to keep it PG-13ish online, but if I am tired or something, the way I actually talk tends to come out. My tendency to use the F word like other people use "very" does not appear to be in any way problematic per se.
I suggest you rethink your assessment of what is happening here.
Why should this excite me? Wine already can do DX9 pretty good. And according to one comment this does not even compare. Who cares about DX9 nowadays? DX10/11/12 would be very different story. Something like this bringing modern windows games to linux would be great.
Even greater would be M$ open sourcing DX but that will not happen in the next few years.
I would assume that performance would be low-hanging fruit. OpenGL and DirectX work quite differently, so translating the calls of one to the other should involve quite a bit of work/CPU cycles. Vulkan, being closer to metal, should be a more straightforward translation target.
Example: HLSL-to-GLSL is likely a difficult problem, where HLSL-to-SPIR-V is probably much simpler.
> Who cares about DX9 nowadays?
Lots of games still support it. In addition this layer could be used for future work in DX11/DX12, instead of the (per my above argument) more complex OpenGL translator.
What good would open-sourcing DirectX be without the Windows Display Driver Model? And how easy would it be to get that working without the NT kernel? And how interested would the Linux kernel be in supporting this?
> What good would open-sourcing DirectX be without the Windows Display Driver Model? And how easy would it be to get that working without the NT kernel?
Shouldn't be harder than what Wine is already doing. Open sourcing can surely help in some ways. MS for example already open sourced HLSL parser, so translation tools can benefit from it.
What about older games? I think this would make it possible to improve graphics of those games by going trough Vulcan and adding new features to the pipeline. With Steam and GOG there is a big market for older games and for older games with renewed graphics and up to date compatibility.
This looks like cars all over again. Massive energy waste for transporting single persons. Looking at this reminds me of people driving alone on heavy massive gas consuming 4 seat vehicles to drive the same way everybody else is driving. Except that now its in the air and for rich people only. I don't see flying cars happening, well at least not like this. There probably will be flying shuttles that take people to different places like buses or metros that would make way more sense then this.
The future is here; it's just not evenly distributed yet.
That's been true for a long, long time, though, and rich people always take the role of vanguarding expensive new technologies. Later it'll get developed into more efficient forms and commoditized.
