Learn by doing. Make a profile on something like Elance, convince 1 person to pay you (dirt-cheap, will take 20+ bids) to build a basic site. Start with wordpress and move up, gradually increasing you skills, prices, and clients.
Per usual on HN, I think people take simple, fun utilities like this way too serious and try inject some philosophical ideal about loving your work blah blah blah. They dont get it. I like it. Good job.

I think it depends on what type of company you are starting... For any web-based startup, the lean route is the obvious choice (especially if you think you have an idea that will blow up)
