I had recently been experimenting with pouch/couchdb, and got it working locally, then came across a post on reddit about Fireproof. I really liked how it sounded - like the evolution of pouch/couch.
So I set it up on a node app - it works great locally -
import { fireproof } from '@fireproof/core'
const db = fireproof(dbname)
db.put(doc)
async read(id) {
if (id) return await db.get(id)
return await db.allDocs()
}
Then I wanted to sync the data to the cloud - just the simplest thing possible, but I got lost in all the connector options and descriptions. I tried setting up PartyKit, but got bogged down in it all and eventually went on to something else.
So it would be great if the home page included a simple demo with a connector - Amazon S3 or PartyKit - including setting up the cloud db.
Thanks, and good luck with everything - it looks amazing...
(side note: HackerNews doesn't let you format code with ``` ??)
Thanks for the feedback. That is a bridge we are crossing now. We started with open source backends for maximum coverage, and are standing up Fireproof Cloud now as the easy default. If you click "inspect data" in the demo CodePen app, it will show you a live replication in our dashboard.
We'll be adding auth and sharing controls soon, so you should be able to build basic apps with just Fireproof and an HTML host.
Thanks for linking that - it's a nice system with clean syntax -

This was made by PyVoyager [1], an attempt at automating the process of generating movies from the 70k+ images the Voyagers returned.
The Voyagers didn't have accurate camera position information, so the images are haphazardly centered on their targets. PyVoyager attempts to center the images on the target when they are fully in view, though there are still jitters.
One of these days I'd like to pick it up again and complete the movies - the filters can be combined of course to make color movies, as here [2]. There are some more movies here [3].
The descriptions are written by the producers, and explicitly donated to the public domain as part of the production.
Covers are interesting. The imprint has gone for a “classic oil painting” style as a general rule of thumb and those need to be PD as well of course. That’s trickier than it sounds in the US, as to be PD they need to have been published in a book in the US pre-1923. For example, the edition of Crime and Punishment I worked on has an Edvard Munch as cover art.[1] I managed to find that reprinted in a copy of “Scandinavian Art”, published in the US in 1922.[2] Unfortunately just looking at the PD tags on commons.wikimedia isn’t good enough as they rarely provide proof and anyone can edit them; the project could get into real copyright trouble without having proof of PD.
Hmm... thanks for that link!
That website says nothing about patents and prior art, so its purpose seems somewhat different. Shouldn’t takeover someone’s website meant for something else :-)
This is some great information - however clicking Back after reading some info scrolls the homepage back to the top. The categorization into separate categories is probably not too useful at this point - it might make more sense to just have a single page with all the companies and their strategies listed.
Anyway, great idea for a site - maybe you could add a post to Twitter or Facebook button to help spread it around.
Thanks! I will try to trim down the unnecessary categorization. I have also added a share button as you have mentioned (only on Twitter to start with) :). I will definitely add more share buttons.
I read through the readme and the site/docs, but didn't see any examples of what the CLI creates.
But here's an example -
https://github.com/vratix-dev/api-library/blob/main/registry...
It might be good to show some code like that on the main page and readme.
Thanks for making this - will try it out!
