I wondered why my Facebook feed no longer had updates from my friends. Alas the Redditification of Facebook is well on its way.

I haven't been on facebook in well over a decade at this point but surely it led the enshittification charge of that generation of social media. Reddit has had a pretty steady decline since it started (iirc one of the first comments on the site was about how adding comments meant the site was going downhill) but it got really bad only within the last ten years or so.

Agreed. This is probably the reason why rewriting in Rust "works" -- because the architecture has been previously worked out.

John Dough, LOL

I WFH 100% of the time. This allows my spouse and I to work. Without this one of us would have to leave the workforce to take the children to school. But because I WFH I can do the school runs and I realize I have it so good, it makes me unwilling to consider any other potential job offers.

And BTW, because I don't have to commute 3 hours like I used to I can now work as late if a task requires me to. So yeah the ability to WFH makes me LOYAL.

You originally chose a job with 3hr of commute?

They might not have a choice (although this is somewhat relative); switching costs to changing jobs and a move elsewhere due to changes in family circumstances or rising rents might lead to a situation where one has to “accept” the 3 hour commute, at least until the right opportunity presents itself.

just curious how this works, do the kids just need a lift home and you can continue to work? Just wondering how you fit a full day in even with WFH (asking because both spouse and I are 3+ days in office and pickup/drop off kinda happen before/after the work days so WFH isn't make a big difference for us, personally)

with a commute like that I hope travel time is work time

This initiative presupposes the apps are no longer under development.

What happens if an app you are developing gets translated to a language you do not know?

And people probably aren't using it because they are not sure when it will get yanked.

Yep I have a rule that I need a Google service to exist a few years before I would adopt it, and even then I might reconsider. They just aren't reliable

Ads, mail, search, Android, Chrome, and Docs are about the only things I trust them not to kill.

Anyone that can get someone else to hire them as an "AI engineer".

In Nigeria, you run the risk of being assaulted by random army personnel for wearing anything remotely military looking e.g. laced up shin-high boots. They simply won't pass up an opportunity to relive anyone of anything of value if they can.

I'm guessing playing Fela Kuti's Zombie is still an instant beating?

I wonder if prisoners feel the same way.

I think time seems to pass by quickly because as we get older we get busier with family, work, children, spouse, friends, a few side interests etc.

You inherited your dad's British humour :)
