I am by no means elite, although I did graduate Magna Cum Laude from a low ranked state university. I found it nearly impossible to read. My mind would wander. A single page took me 30 minutes, and I often retained almost nothing. Never found out if it was anxiety, ADHD, or what. But somehow I got my work done and made it to 2 MS degrees.

One of the best, most cost effective ways to do this is by enrolling at your local community college. Faculty there are primarily focused on teaching, and WANT you to “get it”. In addition to math, I recommend you take ALL the STEM courses you can that you’ll touch in university. I took separate classes in Unix and C at community college before my university quickly introduced them in systems programming. Boy, that was time and money well spent.

Here’s a fun one: A proprietary bytecode VM allows body makers to execute custom software built with Diamond Logic Builder on Navistar trucks and buses. Instead of cutting and splicing wiring harnesses, builders can add various devices and logic to operate their systems (tow winch, water pump, lift bucket, etc.) with DLB.

Hard to train new pilots when they refuse to fly due to distrust in ATC.

Please forgive my ignorance but who pays for these funerals? Here in the USA, funerals easily cost thousands of dollars, even without a casket or burial plot. To my knowledge, unclaimed remains end up in a mass grave with no fanfare. It’s nice that in the Netherlands, EVERYONE gets a little dignity at the end, no matter who they were.

I for one, would much rather live in Elwood Blues's room than next to ANY interstate.

I recall from a PBS special that in the late 1800s, NYC suffered a blizzard that shut down even elevated trains for days. Hence, the move towards building underground.

They also got rid of surface running cars because of the same reason.

Dear God, how I LOATHED Turbo anything as a beginning student. Yes, the debugger was helpful, but I spent HOURS upon HOURS chasing down non-sensical error messages. This was in the pre-Mozilla days mind you, so good luck finding help. Even the TA was useless. Years later, I learned C++ with gcc. Only debug tool we used was "got here" statements. MUCH less frustration. I have vowed to smash every copy of Turbo Pascal and Turbo C/C++ that I find.

To the author: I commend you on your work! As a former full-time educator, I believe that one of the best thing you can do to promote usage is to create supplementary materials (lecture slides, quiz deck in Blackboard format, etc. I do realize there are differences between everyone, but when I was an educator, there were many times when I was expected to teach multiple subjects that I had little to no experience with, with as little as one days notice in many cases (the adjunct had a baby. Can you teach this?). TLDR; Having a good text is a good start. To increase adoption and usage, create teaching materials, which saves valuable time for instructors. Peace out

Sick day? What is this “sick day”? I’m a corporate employee and have been for years. What I receive is Paid Time Off. I can earn up to 160 hours per year, with additional time granted for public holidays (Christmas, New Year’s, etc.) Call in sick? One less day available. Contract COVID and need to be out a week or more? Need time off like to convalesce a dying parent? Too bad. Adios vacation. Yes, I’m aware there are plenty of people such military personnel, the self employed, etc. who do not receive paid time off. My point is that “sick days” have become a thing of the past.

I work in Europe. I have 26 days of PTO per year (=208 hours) and 11 public holidays. But when I'm sick and I'm on sick leave, I don't lose my PTO, these are two different things. When I'm sick, I can't work. When I take PTO, I go on holidays. These two shouldn't be confused, it's not good for both physical and mental health.

On the other hand, I probably earn less than you (6200 EUR/month after paying all taxes, i.e. ca. 6500 USD). But I very much prefer it stays that way.
