I've been bitten by the Meshtastic / LoRa bug. It's fascinating to see how far these little inexpensive units can reach.

This weekend I was able to reach my home node from a state park 8.2 km away and have been giddy since.

Or the my car has issues based on the flavor ice cream I purchase.

Not a father but a "fun uncle" to my buddy's kids. I bought them a snap circuit set and they absolutely loved building out the projects in the booklet. In a couple years (the oldest was five at the time), I hope to revisit the snap circuits and introduce how this all works.

I wouldn't cite Wansink... the guy had 15 retractions in the past year for making shit up.

Oh, good to know. Are you aware of more details? Replications or critiques of those studies? (As I said, I came across them in pop-sci books.)

The unit I'm affiliated with was tasked by the university to run replications and ultimately assist with the retractions. This was all done by my colleagues but I heard about it quite often. Past that I am going to refrain on commenting more as I'm unqualified to do so.

Two published replication studies (used for retractions) can be found here:

I really enjoy my pair of BeatsX. They have the same W1 chip as the AirPods which makes pairing simple. They do have a cord between the buds but also have an inline mic and volume / music controls.

They aren't as sexy as the AirPods but I was able to pick them up on sale for $75 so I have no real gripes.

I have the similar PowerBeats3. W1 chip and connecting cable but a bigger battery housing. I use them for cycling (I know) and they’re great. I think the Bluetooth dropped out once in over a year. Battery life is great and they just work.

Regular Apple ear pods fall out of my ears so I’m not so sure about AirPods.

I also recommend the BeatsX. I honestly have no complaints, and they aren't deserving of the scorn the Beats brand normally gets.

Semaphore as a service Slack Chat bot.

Seen that.

Shared drive with excel files, people would shout at each other to 'release the lock'

Yeah, first real job had the customer database as a VB frontend onto an Access file shared over {whatever Win95 was using in 1996-97}. After a few snafus, the CS / Sales people learned that they had to single-task with the database.

I also agree with her and have had similar instances in my life where I chose to be silent.

My interpretation of this silence is an evaluation of opportunity cost. I choose to be silent even though I might have something to say because I value the time saved avoiding a pissing match by forgoing any benefit of speaking my mind.

I might be totally missing the mark on her intended meaning. Regardless of my interpretation, it is pretty disheartening that advancements in various areas can be stalled due to people reacting (read wanting to be offended) rather than listening, processing and engaging.

Awesome story! Just as a heads up with uBlock Origin in Chrome on macOS one is greeted with a header followed by a white page. Everything loaded with once I shut it off.

I noticed the same thing and the problem is the js file contains the word 'ads', which seems to be blacklisted in uBlock.

Not to derail the conversation but this whole discussion on "productization" reminded me of the plot line of a Black Mirror episode. When I originally watched it I found it mostly absurd but now in the context of this thread it makes a whole lot of sense.

Here is the episode I am referring to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be_Right_Back_(Black_Mirror)

I always wondered why we only have a single election day given how long the candidates spend campaigning. Is there any reason why a 3 day window (or more) couldn't be used?

Mail-ins are accepted "over time" as it were. Which apparently doesn't help LOL. However, it might be nice to have multiple days (or strictly mail-in, as my city now does) to be able to avoid those long lines, those can be painful...
