I have been introduced to this from my local MySQL team. Just want to confirm, how is the conflict resolution solved? e.g., two different updates on two different server at about the same time.

Certification of transactions is done on transaction commit.

If two people have modified the same data, then one of them will get a similar error to a deadlock. The other is free to proceed.

I don't like to bargain.

I do wish that something like this (and the compute stick) will become mainstream. My company has multiple office location and I need to commute to work. Bringing a 5-kg+ of load everyday (laptop, charger, etc) is sure hurting my back.

With this, I can just bring a card or a stick, and plug it in on my company card/stick reader and start working.

Mate buy yourself a decent backpack. 5kg, hell 10kg extra weight shouldn't cause anybody back problems even if you wear it for a 12 hour shift.

... but please take it off when you get on the Tube/Metro/whatever, every sodding day I'm bashed by ignorant twats with laptop backpacks

Isn't Windows To Go exactly meant for this? All you need is a certified USB drive which you can plug in at home and at office.

Yes, and it works better than I'd ever have expected. I'm actually using a regular usb3 flash drive as a keychain gaming rig. Skyrim running in 5 minutes on any PC or Mac.

I never really thought of that but that's pretty smart. Then you can take your games anywhere and a USB3 256GB drive is super cheap nowadays you could pack a lot of games on it and play at friends houses or really anywhere. Slick.

Granted I'd rather just have better gaming capability in a smaller, dockable device like a Surface but I see the merit for sure.

Yes it is. Some variants even include a hardware security module so that you can store your encryption keys on it and keep everything but the bootloader encrypted (assuming proper software support of course).

Wouldn't replacing your 5kg laptop with a <2kg one be a significantly more realistic upgrade? Which you can do RIGHT NOW?

I cannot imagine a scenario of how this will be used. Any specific needs that Google tries to cover?

I like their converter widget.

You want to practice violin and have your laptop but no metronome?

I love the whole "Google as a search interface to a bunch of microapps" thing. Now if only people other than Google could add things into these...

>if only people other than Google could add things into these I think that's DuckDuckGo's approach.

AWS is quite okay, I think, and useful. They even named their free training day as AWSome Day.

Nice. It's quite effective and fun to learn people's names.

My problem with the umbrella is that it is symmetric. If I hold it with my left hand, my right part becomes exposed, and vice versa. If I try to protect my backpack from getting wet, my front side get wet.

From this acquisition, I just hope that Path won't turn into Kakao/LINE-like application, where they offer useless stickers, and try to look 'cute'.

I hope I don't ruin the joke by asking, is this a joke?

> In my opinion, people are just poorly educated (or not educated) in presentation making. Or to phase it another way, a school may teach them to use PP the software but doesn't teach them how to put on a good presentation using it.

I agree. You cannot make the tool as an excuse of not giving a good presentation. PP is there to help you do things, like any other tools. You need to know how to use it properly and wisely.

I think, the widespread use of PP is because of its capability to present ideas concisely, especially to the management level where they won't spend their time reading a long document. This is especially prominent in the area of Strategy Consulting, where they can just arrange picture and text to be presented to the board of directors.

They should test for hopelessness. If you put yourself in a simulation, you know that you will get out of it eventually. That gives hope and motivates you to keep going. In real-life scenario, you might be on Mars without possibility of going back.

I think that is a certainty for the first generations. Simulating that on Earth would be a legal nightmare though.
