The best Ruby on Rails mentorship program around?
1 point by Apane on May 23, 2015 | hide | past | favorite
Hi there,

I've been searching for a Ruby on Rails mentorship program for a LONG time (I'm very diligent when it comes to this sort of thing) and finally came across a private mentor-ship group run by two seasoned developers.

I signed up with them after having an initial Skype call, and put down an initial $1,000 deposit. And I'm now paying $500/mo for additional help when needed, and to have them answer questions, or show me how to solve different problems.

They've been a tremendous help in turning me into a Junior rails developer to a full-stack, intermediate web developer. In fact, I've already started my first contract job and by the end of it my initial investment will be covered many times over!

Anyways, I've found through this experience that the best way to learn a new skill set is NOT only by reading, but by working with those who are where you want to be! You can read every book but learning with those who are are much further are ahead is truly invaluable.

With that said, I was thinking of developing what they taught me into a video series and would like to gauge hacker news users interest in this?

I will cover everything from setting up your dev environment, to creating a new app, and writing your first lines of code, to the different aspects of an app, and what skill sets you need, to diving into each of those skill sets, to building a simple app using those skill sets, to working with git, to deploying the app to heroku, to even the sales pitch to prospective clients and so forth!

It's essentially a "Learn to be a web developer suite/bundle"

If interested let me know your thoughts and I can begin preparing the coursework, videos, etc...
