Just overheard a funny conversation between two engineers

Was just walking back from lunch and overheard this:

Engineer #1: "Someone asked me for a restaurant recommendation in Boston. I've never been to Boston, so I did what I always do... I just looked it up on Yelp and told her the top result. Then she checked Yelp and said 'OMG! Yelp agrees with you!'"

Engineer #2: "You're an API, man. A natural language processing API."

Good stuff.

The real irony, they both probably missed the point that she used that as an excuse to talk/flirt with him.

I mean, it's a possibility, but "probably" seems a little strong.

Your post does remind me of my favorite engineer joke:

Two engineering students were walking across campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?"

The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want."

The second engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit."

If this was real life I'd take the bike too. I mean, something like that actually happening would seem pretty suspicious. I'd think it was a candid camera thing or a pretext to lure me somewhere to rob me.

Fair.

That joke is awesome, don't ever remember hearing that one.

No one said it was a self-aware api.

People do that?

Not API but protein interface to yelp

Indeed, "application protein interface".

Wetware API?
