While I don't know about Sweden (where this article appears to have been written), but compared to prices in the Netherlands, in the US gasoline is about 2-3x as cheap (at least, last time I checked, I don't own a car so I don't keep quite as close an eye on these prices).
Or compare for yourself (today's average Dutch price is 1.735 euro per liter):
