How Leatherman Made That Amazing Multi-Tool You Wear on Your Wrist (wired.com)

It seems like half of wired's articles are just long format ads.

This one looks like an awesome idea though.

The other half are short format ads and picture ads.

Ok, deeplinks work :) Just a quick PSA for Germans, since today wired.com redirects to wired.de [1] ( which as far as I can tell is just a crappy me-too journal with a Wired license, not a translation) and at least with noScript one gets only the German site. However a VPN works fine to access wired.com.

"And it also works nicely with a moto 360".

Cool idea. I use my micra at least a couple of times a month from my keychain. I live in the uk so carrying my surge about isn't an option, not that I'd want to with the weight of it! But it does get some action around the house.

I saw the tread the other day and thought meh. I've been waiting for the 360 v2 so who knows, I might be in for one of these now.

I'm finding it very hard to believe this CEO invents new product story - who else was involved and who did the difficult conceptual and design work?

Obviously others were involved, but it's worth noting from the press release on his promotion (https://www.leatherman.com/7-15-13.html):

> Rivera, an engineer, has been with the Tool Group going on 22 years and played a pivotal role in the design and evolution of the category-defining multi-tools. "I have long recognized that Ben's capabilities extend far beyond his status as the world's best multi-tool designer," said company Founder and Chairman Tim Leatherman. "Ben is going to make an outstanding President of Leatherman Tool."

The issue I see is that all the material I can find points to him being President, not CEO. (See above, and Wikipedia)

Edit: Found this http://www.oregonlive.com/playbooks-profits/index.ssf/2014/0... but it's not clear whether or not Rivera is CEO now.

I think you are giving this story too much credit. It's little more than a press release. They are not even selling it yet. Not that it stops them from having already a 5 star review on their webpage[1].

The extent to which they are pushing it lends credibility to it being a top down thing.

It costs $200 and probably isn't a whole lot more useful than this thing:

Why? I'd find it amazing if all the top executives at a company that develops tools had never developed any tools.

I realy do like the Black PVD watch strap I must see if I can get one for my Chistopher Ward C8
