I can't see Doctors lowering themselves to participate in this charade, but clearly, programmers should expect less.



You can't really extend the analogy. Doctors don't face the same problem as hiring managers. Their patients walk in the door. They don't have to find a good patient they want to keep for 30 years. Hiring managers have an acute information-processing problem, in that they do not know who's good, and have to find out. Try to put yourself in their shoes. If you ever found a company, you'll be there someday, wondering how to hire people...
