Don't complain about downvotes, the points usually rebound to positive a few minutes later.
Also, it's better to flag the spam instead of complaining. You need some karma to flag an article (500?). Enough flags can kill a story. If you are going to complain anyway, try to use complete sentences:
Bad: "wtf is this on HN?"
Not so bad: "I think that this story is off topic and spam (but I have not enough karma to flag it)."
This is clearly spam, yet I'm the one getting downvoted.
