I find it interesting that google is building a self-driving car for public roads. There's such a vide variety of other applications (like agricultural and industrial vehicles) that would require much simpler control mechanism.
Many agricultural vehicles are computer-controlled when in the field. They cost so much, however, that the additional cost of the operator's time is fairly insignificant.
