LXDE - the ultra light weight DE - is switching from GTK+ to Qt. I think Canonical is switching Unity from GTK+ to Qt as well.



Unity 8 uses QML for the shell itself but the applications will still be in GTK. And Lubuntu pushed back shipping LXQT until at least 15.04.


According to develop.ubuntu.com, Ubuntu SDK allows two types of apps. Native (QML) and HTML5. I don't see GTK+ written anywhere.

I think GTK will be just for legacy/3rd party applications and new stuff by Canonical will be Qt based.
