Well, being realistic, I doubt that most exchanges like Bitstamp are sharing their customer's info with other companies, so the original issue that the author was talking about doesn't really apply here.
If you're paranoid, you can use Local Bitcoins or the Mycelium Local Trader app to do in person transactions.
