Sourcing components for mass production, government regulatory hurdles, and then that damn enclosure are 90% when everything goes right. I can build all kinds of things with my arduino and all of those awesome little one-off function boards you can snag on ebay from china theses days. I can't build 10000 of any of them.

See, hobbyists have it lucky! Well, nowadays samples are harder to get..
