To a certain degree, HN is a source of procrastination to me - which it is really bad for because almost every link requires a substantial amount of time to consume. I still go to Reddit to click on a few [pic] links every now and then, but HN is much more inspirering.
I agree with you though - I generally consider the interesting topics to be the less technical and more startup-related ones.
