Do you need massive computer power in order to run these?

Not particularly. A Macbook Pro should be able to drive one, an air couldn't though.

Which pro model are you thinking of? To my knowledge none can. Including the latest. The only 4K that can be output is via HDMI (in the late 2013 models) and that too at 30Hz. So only for TV.

The product page says that all Macbook Pro(retina)(late 2013) models have the same output which is:

Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz | Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz | Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz
