Not really. If you go after top people from good universities (Waterloo, UBC), it's still 80-85k in Vancouver. Less than in Silicon Valley but not by much.

Why would you mention UWa and UBC and not...U Toronto, which is actually internationally ranked in computer science?

There are a whole array of credible Universities in Canada when it comes to cpsc, I don't think he was being selective, just what came to mind.

Those are the first ones that come to mind for me

Not to diminish UT reputation but both UWa and UBC ranked the highest among Canadian universities when it comes to the annual ACM competitions.

You mean ACM programming competitions. I believe Shanghai Jiaotong university often comes out #1 in those competitions, and no one is claiming that they are at the top of the computer science program rankings.

I highly doubt that. Even BBY during their glory days are willing to pay 64k for fresh grad with co-ops experience.

Microsoft paid 80k for ugrad back in 2008 in Redmond.

I would love to know which companies in the Vancouver that are willing to pay that much for mostly raw talent.

PS: I dealt with mostly UBC co-op and I know UBC CS curriculum rather well and 85k is too much.
