Not necessarily IOS 7 [though maybe it popularized it]. There's a number of android apps (firefox, reddit is fun) that do the same thing and I don't like it there either. I'd prefer some kind of larger more noticeable way for me to see that it's loading, and that it's actually doing something. Sometimes if loading is slow it's easy to not notice these 1 pixel bars changing.



Yeah, this isn't at all coming from iOS 7. Most any Android app that loads some content in an embedded web view uses this pattern.


Also empithany (the gnome 3 browser) used it before
