Scribd (YC S'06) is looking for an engineer who loves data and is interested in being the first dedicated data scientist or growth hacker at a startup. We have a ton of traffic (top 100 website, 200M registered users), a huge dataset (over 100M user contributed documents), and a strong willingness to be experimental. It's basically a playground for growth hacking and data mining.
We have seen huge gains from growth hacking experiments we have done already, but we know there is a ton of low-hanging fruit optimization waiting to be unlocked. Some of the ideas we want to explore are: content classification algorithms, deriving quality scores from user interaction data, natural language processing for user queries, recommendation algorithms, and all kinds of funnel, UI and policy optimizations.
