I recently heard about LivingSocial getting hacked and got an email asking me to change my password. Since I haven't used the service since it debuted, I thought I would be even safer and just delete my account.
This is when I discovered a second major security hole on LivingSocial. Deleting your account is basically impossible.
So I googled and found these instructions -- http://macgateway.com/help-and-support/how-to-delete-a-livingsocial-account/
So you have to send them a message. Obviously a transparent attempt to avoid attrition by... making it hard for people to quit. Always a warning sign, but I suppose it could be defended somehow, as long as they actually respond to the messages, right?
Two problems.
1) When I tried to follow the third party instructions, I found that LivingSocial had carefully worked to remove any option that might be classified as deleting ones account, or for that matter, an "other" category.
2) Because I was unable to select a relevant category, I selected the closest thing I could find... questions about the recent security breach. I criticized the company for this poor design and asked that my account be deleted ASAP.
It has now been over 3 days and my account is still active. I conclude that there is no practical means of closing a LivingSocial account.
