IANAL, but you don't have to worry about US taxes. You have to collect sales taxes for a particular state only if you have a store or the like in that state. I think, but do not know for sure, but I think activities such as R&D dont count as a "presence." In the US, your best source of advice is probably a CPA, rather than a lawyer. Cheaper too.
