Ask HN: Fair compensation for billable person?
1 point by dpweb on March 1, 2013 | hide | past | favorite
Trying to arrive at a fair comp for someone at a consulting firm, based on their billable work.

Simple is better than complicated so I'm thinking the 'fair' equation is:

$ Billable work + 20% (benefits, etc..) 20% (administrative support, sales) 20% (firm profit)

Salary * 1.6 = Billable charges. So someone who bills out $240k yr. - fair salary is $150k.

Please share examples from the real world.. thanks,
